Alright, maybe money is not the “root” of all bacteria, but it’s certainly infested with it. Researchers from New York University’s Dirty Money Project recently found that our money is unbelievably nasty, finding some 3000 different types of bacteria (CBS News). Some of the nastiness they found on our money included viruses, E. coli, and Staphylococcus aureus (the strain responsible for acne, respiratory issues, and food poisoning). If they were to repeat the study today, Covid-14 would also likely be found on our money.
Our bacteria-infested money is pretty bad all by itself, but it’s made much worse by the fact that our world goes absolutely crazy to get as much of it as possible. As Scripture states, “For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs” (1 Timothy 6:10). Not only is our money physically gross, but when we develop a love for it, it becomes so spiritually gross that it can lead us to all sorts of evil and even to the loss of our souls!
Let’s remember how sickening money can be to our spiritual well-being, and, apparently, our physical health as well. Let’s be sure to guard ourselves against the “love of money,” and maybe carry around some hand sanitizer just to be on the safe side.
