More Beyond

Before the days of Christopher Columbus, much of the world had developed the motto, “No More Beyond.” People thought they had reached the outer limits of the earth and there was nothing beyond what they had discovered. Then came Columbus. To honor his great achievements, there is a statue standing in Valladolid, Spain where Columbus is crouching on top of the globe. A banner is spanning across the earth which reads, “Ne Plus Ultra” or “No More Beyond.” However, over to the side, a lion is clawing and destroying the word “Ne,” now making the banner read, “more beyond.” The message is clear, Columbus was one of the men instrumental in showing the world there was indeed “more beyond.”

Of everything that Columbus did for our world, perhaps one of the greatest was simply expanding our mental boundaries. Things we thought were impossible now seemed within reach. Ironically, even though we’ve been able to reach medical and technological heights never thought possible, we’ve reached another time where our world has placed rigid boundaries. Like hundreds of years ago, people are boldly proclaiming and even teaching in schools that there is “no more beyond” this life. In other words, when we die, that’s the end and we will simply rot away in the ground.

Thankfully, an incredible man walked the earth 2,000 years ago (Luke 2). He quickly shined a light on what people thought was the truth (Matthew 5-7). He amazed people with His knowledge and teaching (Matthew 7:28-29). He healed people from lifelong aliments (Matthew 8-9). He overcame the boundaries of death (John 11), even His own death (Matthew 28). Why? Because He wanted people to see that there was “more beyond” this life (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18). There was an eternity waiting for us in heaven if we would simply obey God’s commands (Acts 2:38; Matthew 28:18-20).

There is substantial proof in history, archeology, manuscript evidence, eye-witness accounts, and of course in Scripture to confirm us that Jesus is God’s Son and the Bible is God’s rulebook for this life. If we will study and learn from the evidence, we can walk away without a doubt that Jesus was telling the truth. He is God’s Son and there is “more beyond” this life!

It took people a long time to finally come to realize there was more beyond their beliefs about the earth. A day is coming when everyone will come to know, without a doubt, that there is more beyond this physical life (Philippians 2:10). The question is, will we study this out and come to realize it before it’s too late?
